8. Allington,
Nettleton, West Kington, N Wraxall, Ford off road Extends route 7 to West Kington via Stanton St Quintin, Summer Lane and a steep climb from Goulter's Mill. The bit along the Broadmead Brook from West Kington towards Castle Combe is very muddy in winter, and full of nettles in summer. Get a dry spring day and it is paradise. Possible short-cut back through Ford cuts out the N Wraxall and Old Coach Roads. |

9. Hazlebury
Manor, Box Hill Head out through Corsham to Westwells. Folow a footpath (need to lift bikes over 2 gates) towards Chapel Plaister. Steep technical descent through Thorn Woods to Box, followed by steep ascent into the woods. Rather than descend all the way to the road turn right at the track crossroads along Wyres Lane for an easier ascent to the top of the woods. Return via Rudloe Manor tracks including steep technical descent and steep ascent onto Weavern Lane. If you like mud, loop west to follow Weavern Lane down to and through Weavern Wood. Even in a dry autum this is almost impossibly muddy. Return via Biddestone. |
